With the improvement of the level of informatization and technology in modern society, in recent years, the criminal methods of some criminals have also shown the characteristics of intelligence. Taking the theft of electric energy as an example, in addition to the traditional unauthorized wiring on power supply facilities, there are also intelligent electricity theft with certain technical characteristics, such as bypassing the electricity metering device and modifying the special electricity stealing device. These electric theft methods are concealed and difficult to obtain evidence. In areas where electricity theft is serious, the trend of electricity theft has been formed for many years, and the illegal electricity theft by villagers has been rampant. For a long time, it has not been effectively controlled and punished, resulting in serious loss of state-owned assets and seriously hindering public safety. And the law-abiding order of electricity consumption has brought immeasurable negative impact on the production and life of state-owned enterprises and the majority of residents.

After being hired as the legal counsel of the Danzhou Power Supply Bureau of Hainan Power Grid Co., Ltd., lawyer Li Jing of our firm has actively provided legal support and assistance for the above-mentioned problems that have plagued power supply companies for many years. On January 28, 2021, in order to enhance the legal awareness of the general public, guide the public to use electricity legally and safely in the future, and accurately crack down on illegal and criminal activities of electricity theft, the Danzhou Power Supply Bureau coordinated the municipal court to open a trial in the place where the crime occurred. The case of Mai Mouping modifying the electricity meter to steal electricity. After the trial, the court found that the defendant Mai Mouping opened his own meter box without authorization to modify it and steal electric energy, which constituted the crime of theft. The presiding judge pointed out at the scene that the defendant's unauthorized modification of the meter not only illegally occupied the country's power resources and disrupted the order of public power supply, but also brought serious hidden dangers to the safe use of electricity, and may even cause serious fires, personal electric shocks, etc. In the aftermath, I hope that the general public will learn from the case, not to be greedy for the small, and to jointly create an orderly and standardized electricity consumption environment.
